Hi, I’m Marisa Kanas.

Reinvention is a journey, and while it takes time, it is ultimately worth the effort. I can speak from experience! After nearly 20 years spent in development, communications, and public relations, I came to the realization that it was time for a career change. While fundraising can be rewarding, it’s also a high-stress field that often leads to burnout, anxiety, and a host of other challenges—experiences I’ve faced myself. The process of change was daunting and gradual, but I made the decision to pursue a master’s degree and become a psychotherapist.

Having personally experienced burnout, anxiety, overwhelm and loss, I can deeply empathize with those who are facing similar struggles. I believe everyone has the potential to live a better life when they feel safe, understood, and validated.

As a compassionate and curious listener, I take an integrative approach to therapy, tailoring my work to each person’s unique challenges. Through my experience, I’ve learned that the coping mechanisms we develop during difficult times in childhood—whether it’s people-pleasing, harsh self-criticism, or emotional detachment—often keep us stuck in patterns that no longer serve us as adults. While these coping strategies kept us safe at one time, once we move past those environments as adults, these strategies can prevent us from being authentic and achieving our goals.

I am confident that my therapeutic approach, life experience, education, and sense of humour will provide you with the support you need during this transformative time.
